More toons banned!

We all know that Chiner likes to censor and ban things that are subversive to the masses...but this is ridiculous...

See, Teletubbies is a mixed media show, in that it blends cartoons with live action. And that melange is now officially banned by Beijing.

(Chiner) has declared verboten TV shows and movies that blend hand or computer drawings with breathing human actors, in a drive to nurture home-grown animators--and perhaps wean the nation off of foreign cartoons.

So how stupid is this?  If we think about it...let's go through the list of movies that fit the bill...

Banned:

  • Teletubbies
  • Blues Clues
  • Mary Poppins
  • Bedknobs & Broomsticks
  • An American in Paris
    • Gene Kelley gettin' jiggy with Thomas Mouse
  • Spongebob Squarepants
    • They'd have to delete the opening sequence, "Are you ready kids???"
  • Space Jam (Michael Jordan and Bugs)
  • Roger Rabbit
  • The Day After Tomorrow
    • Most of that movie was computer animation...with people involved.
  • The Fantastic Four...Spiderman...The Incredible Hulk...

Start thinking about the movies with animation and people...and the list starts getting quite long.

UPDATE:

Starting thinking...I need a list of movies that don't meet this criteria and should be allowable in Chiner.

  • The Life & Times of Judge Roy Bean
  • Dirty Harry
  • Caddyshack
  • Tora, Tora, Tora
  • Finding Nemo
  • Toy Story
  • The Bugs Bunny & Road Runner Show

But then...you can get anything from the girls selling the copies at the subway entrance anyway, so what does a government ban on anything matter, anyway?
