Many of my favorite bloggers are posting links and full text of the story of Hao Wu, a blogger and filmmaker who was siezed in Chiner last month.
Rebecca MacKinnon is leading the call...
Hao's family and friends inside China do not want to be interviewed directly by the media at this time, and thus we will not provide journalists with their contact information. We have set up a website dedicated to Hao's release at: www.freehaowu.org. It will be updated regularly with new information that emerges about Hao's situation.
Glenn Reynolds also links and leaves some links for Wal-Mart. I love Glenn and his blog and everything he has done for th eblogosphere (I've even been the recipient of a couple 'Instalanches'), but I just wonder what Wal-Mart, of all things, could do?
Yes, Wal-Mart has some ties in the country. Yes, Wal-Mart recently announced some expansion plans inside Chiner. But, they also want to see those plans come to fruition. Any company stepping up to the plate to play human rights advocate with the government, is going to suddenly find their quest for permits and licenses slowing to a crawl. Wal-Mart has some serious competion in this country from CarreFoure and Metro...I don't see how they can be of help in this situation. It even strikes me as a bit naive. Wal-Mart is in Chiner to do business...not necessarily change the government.
