Easter weekend in GZ. We usually do the same sort of things...color eggs...wait for the Easter bunny...prepare an Easter feast...and just hang around. Last year, we spent the holiday in HK, attending church and having a huge Easter brunch. This year, with expat daughters school schedule...no such enjoyment.
Saturday, the kids colored eggs. Tai-tai is covering off on the best way to do this in her blog. But, lets just say they had fun doing it and the results were very colorful. The kids also made a cake and baked some cookies for the Easter feast on Sunday.
Saturday evening, Tai-tai and I spent at a neighborhood party. A few drinks...some food...and some dancing. All-in-all a pretty good evening.
And then...Easter arrived. First off...it was a late night (early morning?) party. Not much shut- eye. And...being the moron that I am...I awoke too early. Early enough to check to see if the Easter bunny had deposited any goodies for the kids (which he did)...and also early enough to ruin my entire day, because I was tired.
I jumped into the shower and as I am scrubbing my head...the power goes out. 7:30am. Easter Sunday. No power. Welcome to Chiner. Being that this has happened countless times (Thanksgiving 1997 was spent in the dark...as was Christmas 1999), we didn't think much of it, initially. I lit some candles...and the kids got up to discover if there were any goodies for them!
After an hour without power, we finally put in a call to management. Yes, they were aware the power was out...and it should be back on in 20 minutes. OK...fine. I can live with that.
20 minutes later, we get a phone call. Oh...one of the workers had done something, and they needed to go into town to buy some parts. Power won't be back until 4pm. Ughghgh. Easter dinner plans are going to change.
So...the leg of lamb that was planned was prepared and slapped on the BBQ...
The weather was perfect...19C (70F) with about 50% humidity. The bananas in the trees are getting close to harvest.
The remainder of dinner was cooked by the light of lantern...
It was a great day...despite the sacrifices we had to make. And, on a day such as Easter, I use the word sacrifice (when speaking of giving up electrical power) in a very loose way.
