Conference semi-finals are upon us. Let's review my lousy choices from the quarterfinals...
- Tampa Bay vs Ottawa: Got this one right...Sens win in 5
- Montreal vs Carolina: After an early scare from the Habs...the Canes come back and win in 6. That's TWO in a row
- Rangers vs New Jersey: The Rangers really sucked...sweep!
- Philadelphia vs Buffaco: Got this one...Sabres win in 6. I'm 3-1!
- Edmonton vs Detroit: Give the Oilers credit...the forced the Wings into a lot of bad mistakes.
- Colorado vs Dallas: Ughghg...Avs crush the Stars. I'm back to .500 picking...
- Anaheim vs Calgary: I got the 7 game series thing correct...but the wrong team. I'm 3-4
- San Jose vs Nashville: I made one deliberate upset pick...I lost.
The lesson here is...NEVER take any of my picks for anything. Usually, whoever I pick, loses badly. Never fails. This is the life of a Cubs fan.
So...lets get into the Semi Finals...
- Buffalo vs Ottawa. Great match-up of favored teams. I like both teams...I'd give the slight edge to Buffalo in goaltending...Ottawa on D and speed. Buffalo has a bunch of guys with size up front though. This series is a toss-up. I'll go with the Sens.
- New Jersey vs Carolina. Another great series. I can't stand New Jersey and their trapping boring style of play. Carolina, on the other hand, plays it uptempo and you have got to love Eric Staal. The kid plays 30 minutes and game and doesn't give up on any play. They had a rough go with the Habs...and that could be just the thing to get them in the mood to put an end to New Jersey's flirtation with returning to the finals. PLEASE, Carolina...beat NJ.
- Edmonton vs San Jose. Give it up for the Oilers. They took it to the Wings and forced them into all sorts of mistakes to win theier series with them. I did not get an opportunity to watch San Jose during the opening round...so I cannot really comment on their style of play. But, they did beat a decent Nashville team and have been on a roll since the Olympic break. Roloson stood on his head against the Wings...but he is bound to show his true colors sooner or later. Take the Sharks in 5
- Colorado vs Anaheim. A good match up here of teams no one cares about. I've watched both teams play...I am a big Joe Sakic fan. The Avs try and play an uptempo game and keep the puck moving. They did well against the Stars. The Ducks, however, tend to slow it down a bit. The couple games I watched against Calgary were yawners, with exception of points in time in which someone scored. Trapping and slowing down just doesn't do it for me. Go with the Avs in a tough series.
Sit back and lets see how it goes from here...
