Sad, isn't it? When I was a kid, taking an airplane was a special day. Mom bought us a nice outfit, we dressed up and remained on our best behavior, and the employees working on the plane considered themselves "hosts" and "hostesses" charged with creating a pleasurable experience.

Blame deregulation, my friend. Price competition may have made air travel cheaper, but it made the experience feel cheap, too.

I blame the unions. They inflated the salaries of these folks, and then when the industry couldn't handle it anymore, and these people began to take pay cuts...the incentive for doing an exceptional job flew out the window.

On my way home...that is the good part.

Just flew back from the States with the family on United, JFK-SFO-Nagoya-Tapei, suprisingly no problems at all, guess we got lucky, it also helps I guess that myself and the wife refuse to take any kind of shit from airline staff whoever they think they are.
