Mechanical Oxen

The name of this interesting piece of equipment translates, literally, to 'mechanical oxen.'  The engine is situated in front on top of the front axel.  The whole unit pivots on the rear end, with the driver moving the handle bars sort of like rudder of a boat (but the rudder is in the front).  The whole while, belching smoke and giving that classic, 'putt, putt, putt' sound as it rolls through the village.

Sadly, these work horses are on the decline in the area.  You will still see these around some building development projects...but nowhere near can it be seen as it was 10 years ago; transporting rice, vegetables, animals to market.
