It's been a couple days, hasn't it. And, believe me, enough has happened since the last post to share. Lets start with last Friday.
Friday morning started with a quick pack up and exit from the lovely little apartment in Portlands Pearl district. It was a fun short stay in downtown Portland. Restaurants close by, shopping everywhere. We were able to enjoy our time a bit...while shuttling back and forth to our new house while all sorts of work was being completed on it prior to our move in.
After checking out from the apartment, we headed to the house and awaited our stuff from 6 years ago. A full container load was taken off the truck and into the house. Things you haven't seen in so long, and the movers are wanting us to know where we wanted them in the house. Errrr...put it over there!?! They had it all off loaded in about 4 hours...and then our fun began.
It was then we headed for a luxurious lunch at Carl's Jr. and began discussing what we would do next. Tai-Tai was pretty fed up with moving and carrying all of our stuff from apartment to apartment. The work in our house was done...our beds were in the house...all we needed to do was find some bedding and some towels and we could just stay in our own beds. We called the relocation company and told them...we've had enough...we're moving home.
Later, we found the bedding and headed over to JC Penney for the towels...and then we began the struggle of opening all the boxes and figuring out what it was we had. Clearly there were many things we had, that we have since replaced with new items from China...so, we have already started the 'giveaway' pile. Either family or Goodwill or the Church will benefit greatly from all sorts of goodies we don't have room for or we have replaced already.
The first night was peaceful...then we had Saturday night.
At about 10:45pm, I awoke to the doorbell being rung. We had crashed about 90 minutes earlier and I had no idea who would be at the door. I peered out the front window and saw a young woman, tidily dressed waiting at the door...in my sleepy haze, I thought it was FlyRice for a second. I answered the door and she looked nervously down the street telling me she was looking for Megan and wondered if she was there, because she was supposed to meet her here. I apologized to her and told her I didn't know who Megan was and we just moved in and I was unsure if the previous people were who she was looking for. She seemed very disoriented, but not drunk or stoned...very odd.
After I closed the door, I went back to the front window to see where she might be going...that was when she tried putting her key into my car and open it. She wasn't violent, just frustrated she couldn't' get into the car. So, for the first time in my life, I dialed 911. I relayed the story of what had happened to the operator and then gave her play by play of what this woman was doing outside...after about 5 minutes of talking, two police cars showed up...shortly after that, two more. Nice.
The police spoke with her for well over an hour, trying to find out where she belonged, culminating with a car arriving to pick her up. What was odd...she was sitting on a rock in my front garden...when the car arrived, she quietly picked up her coat and got into the car...slowly. Very odd. FlyRice thought she may have been fed a 'date rape' drug or something...she was very disoriented.
Our first thought...OMFG, is this what the neighborhood is like?? But, other neighbors have assured us, its been quiet around here.
The past couple days we have spend opening boxes and organizing stuff...in preparation for the next big arrival of our container from China Tuesday morning. Today, I had to make the phone calls to arrange for garbage and television. Additionally, I went back to a shop that was selling Clear internet service and picked up a modem to see if it would work in our area...their map gave me a definite 'maybe' it would work. Once I got the modem back home, it worked like a million bucks. No DSL through Verizon...No cable modem through Comcast...4G wireless internet...sweet! Of course, after that, we had to head down to the shop for a new wireless router and a few other nick knacks...
The last thing that happened...while unpacking, I found my old stereo and began to set it up with the TV and such. After I got it all plugged in and ready to go, I turned on the Yamaha amp and...nothing. It would turn on for a breif second, then blah. So, I piled the amp into the car and chugged it downtown to a stereo repair joint in Portland. It will be a couple weeks as they work through their backlog, but the guy there was positive it could be repaired.
Thats it...time to get ready for the next phase of the move-in.
